Description
Kientzler Pinot Blanc is the dry, everyday white of a Ribeauville estate better known for its grand cru Rieslings.
The Kientzler family farms around ten hectares on the slopes above Ribeauville in the Haut-Rhin, with parcels in the grand crus Geisberg, Osterberg and Kirchberg de Ribeauville. The house style is precise and dry across the range: whole cluster pressing, a slow cool fermentation in stainless steel, no malolactic fermentation and a period on fine lees before bottling. Pinot Blanc is grown on the gentler ground below the crus and in Alsace is commonly blended with Auxerrois, its softer cousin, which gives the wine more weight and roundness than its position in the range suggests. Residual sugar sits at 3.3 grams per litre and the wine is bottled under stelvin, chosen for freshness and consistency.
Dry, rounded and undemanding, it works as an apertif and with quiche, charcuterie, salads and soft cheese; serve chilled at around 9 degrees.
