Kientzler Riesling Geisberg 2022

Kientzler Riesling Geisberg is the estate's benchmark Grand Cru Riesling, from a steep terraced amphitheatre above Ribeauville.

Geisberg is the smallest and steepest of the Ribeauville Grand Crus, a narrow terraced bowl of marl and hard limestone lying below the ruined castles above the town. The terraces are worked largely by hand because machinery cannot hold the gradient, and yields are naturally low. Kientzler have long treated the site as the reference point of the range, picking in successive passes and pressing whole bunches gently before a slow indigenous yeast fermentation in stainless steel. The wine stays on fine lees over winter and is bottled without oak. At 2.5 grams per litre of residual sugar it is dry, tightly wound in youth and built to reward a decade or more in bottle.

Concentrated and mineral, it is a wine for langoustine, poached chicken or simply time in the cellar; serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
