Kings County Single Malt Whiskey 375ml

Kings County Single Malt Whiskey 375ml is a lightly peated American single malt aged in used bourbon barrels.

This whiskey came before the Peated Bourbon, and in fact caused it: a leftover batch of peated malt from a single malt run is what prompted the distillers to try peat in a bourbon mash. The barley here, with a hint of peat, comes from both English and Scottish granaries and is open-fermented before twice distilling in traditional Scottish pot stills. Maturation runs up to four years in used bourbon barrels, which keeps the wood influence restrained and lets the malt character sit forward. It is Scottish practice transplanted to the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Elegant and cereal-led, with malt biscuit, dried pear, honey and a faint whisper of smoke on the close. Neat, at room temperature, in a tulip glass. A few drops of water help. It also makes a surprisingly good Highball with plain soda.
