Kooyong Estate Chardonnay 375ml 2025

Kooyong Estate Chardonnay is a textural, barrel-fermented Chardonnay from the Mornington Peninsula, here in a handy half bottle.

Planted in 1996 at Tuerong, the vineyard faces north on clay loam over ancient Miocene sedimentary soils. It belongs to the same family group as Port Phillip Estate and has built a strong name for site-driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Estate Chardonnay comes from the home blocks. The fruit is gently whole-bunch pressed straight into French oak barriques and puncheons, a portion of them new, where it ferments before resting on lees for close to a year. The low-intervention approach puts the site first, with lees and oak adding texture and depth to the wine's natural freshness.

Serve lightly chilled, at around 10 to 12 degrees, with roast chicken, scallops in brown butter or a creamy mushroom risotto. The half bottle suits a dinner for two, and the wine will also reward careful cellaring over the medium term.
