Kracher TBA #1 Nouvelle Vague is a botrytis Trockenbeerenauslese from Illmitz in Burgenland, made from Zweigelt and raised in new oak.

Weinlaubenhof Kracher sits at Illmitz in the Seewinkel, the flat eastern shore of the Neusiedlersee, where a shallow steppe lake and a scatter of small salt ponds throw up autumn mists that bring botrytis cinerea to the vineyards with a reliability found almost nowhere else in Europe. The estate numbers its sweet wines each year in ascending order of concentration and divides them between two lines: Zwischen den Seen, raised in large neutral casks, and Nouvelle Vague, fermented and matured in new French barriques. This is the Nouvelle Vague style, pressed from shrivelled, hand selected Zweigelt berries and carrying 173 grams per litre of residual sugar against the firm acidity that keeps the wine buoyant.

Unctuous and concentrated yet lifted by acidity, it suits blue cheese, foie gras and rich fruit desserts, or a glass on its own; serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees.
