Description
Kracher TBA #2 Zwischen den Seen is a botrytis Trockenbeerenauslese from Illmitz in Burgenland, made from Welschriesling and raised in neutral casks.
Illmitz lies in the Seewinkel, between the Neusiedlersee and the string of small salt ponds behind it, and the humidity those waters generate makes noble rot an annual event rather than a lucky accident. Kracher numbers each year's sweet wines in ascending order of concentration and splits them into two houses: Nouvelle Vague, matured in new barriques, and Zwischen den Seen, the traditional line raised in large neutral wooden casks so that fruit and botrytis character carry the wine rather than oak. Welschriesling is the classic Seewinkel variety for this style, holding its acidity through late picking, and this bottling carries 177 grams per litre of residual sugar.
Sweet and penetrating but kept fresh by high acidity, it partners blue cheese, tarte tatin and citrus desserts; serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees.
