Description
Kracher TBA #5 Nouvelle Vague is a botrytis Trockenbeerenauslese from Illmitz made entirely from the rare pink-skinned Rosenmuskateller.
The Kracher family works at Illmitz on the Seewinkel, where the shallow Neusiedlersee and its surrounding salt ponds create the autumn humidity that draws botrytis cinerea into the vineyards almost every year. Wines are numbered in ascending order of concentration, with the Nouvelle Vague line fermented and aged in new French barriques and the Zwischen den Seen line kept in large neutral casks. Number five is a Nouvelle Vague, made from one hundred per cent Rosenmuskateller, an aromatic pink-berried Muscat relative grown only in small quantities. Shrivelled berries are picked by hand and the finished wine carries 261 grams per litre of residual sugar, among the most concentrated the cellar bottles.
Thick, sweet and aromatic with the acidity to stay balanced, it is best with fruit desserts, aged cheese or served alone in small measures; serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees.
