Kracher TBA No. 7 Zwischen den Seen 375ml 2018

Kracher TBA No. 7 Zwischen den Seen is one of the richest Trockenbeerenauslesen in the estate's numbered range, made from Scheurebe.

The numbers on Kracher's Trockenbeerenauslesen run in order of increasing concentration within a vintage, so a No. 7 sits near the top of that year's selection. Zwischen den Seen bottlings are matured in large neutral Austrian casks rather than new barriques, a choice that leaves the grape and the noble rot unobscured. Scheurebe holds its grapefruit and blackcurrant-leaf character through botrytis better than most varieties, which is why it appears so often at the sweeter end of the range. Berries are selected individually in the Seewinkel vineyards around Illmitz and pressed slowly over several days, and this wine finishes at 234 grams per litre of residual sugar.

Enormously sweet but held together by acidity, it works with blue cheese, foie gras and rich fruit desserts, or on its own after dinner; serve well chilled at around 8 degrees.
