Description
La Pèira Las Flors de la Pèira is the estate's Grenache led Terrasses du Larzac red, the step between its entry wine and the grand vin that carries the domaine's name.
Terrasses du Larzac lies in the north of the Languedoc at the foot of the limestone causse, whose cool night air drains down over the vineyards and gives the appellation one of the widest day to night temperature swings in the south of France. It was recognised as an appellation in its own right after years as a named terroir within the wider Languedoc. Pèira is Occitan for stone, a reference to the limestone scree and rolled galets the estate works. Las Flors is 55 per cent Grenache and 30 per cent Syrah, with Mourvèdre and Cinsault making up the balance, and it draws on the same hillside parcels as the grand vin. The blend is raised in barrel, and the altitude and night cooling off the causse keep a wine of this ripeness from tipping into heaviness.
Generous and warm but held together by acidity, it suits slow cooked lamb, daube and hard cheeses; serve at around 17 degrees.
