La Roche Paradis Condrieu Verlieu 2022

La Roche Paradis Condrieu Verlieu is a south-facing single-site Viognier made in a run of just two barrels.

Verlieu lies at the southern end of Condrieu, in the commune of Chavanay near the tiny monopole appellation of Chateau-Grillet, on decomposed granite and mica-schist terraces that hold heat well. The exposure here is south facing, which pushes Viognier to full ripeness, and the terracing means every task is done by hand. Just two barrels of this cuvee are made, so it is a genuinely small bottling from a single parcel. Viognier is the sole grape of the appellation; fermentation and maturation in barrel with lees contact is the traditional treatment, building the weight and texture the wines are known for. The estate is farmed organically.

Rich and low in acidity, it is a wine for richer fish, roast pork and creamy sauces rather than an aperitif; serve at around 12 degrees.
