La Roche Paradis Côte-Rôtie Rozier 2022

La Roche Paradis Cote-Rotie Rozier is a schist-grown Syrah from a climat sitting above the celebrated La Landonne.

Cote-Rotie is a narrow, very steep band of terraced vineyard on the right bank above Ampuis, traditionally divided between the schist of the Cote Brune and the lighter, sandier gneiss of the Cote Blonde. Rozier lies in the northern part of the appellation, on the slope above La Landonne, on schist, a hard dark rock that holds heat and gives structured, mineral wines. Syrah is the dominant grape of Cote-Rotie, and a small proportion of Viognier may be co-fermented with it. This cuvee is raised without any new oak, so the fruit and the site rather than the barrel set the tone. The estate is farmed organically.

Structured and savoury, it wants roast beef, venison or hard cheese and rewards a few years in bottle; serve at around 17 degrees.
