La Roche Paradis Saint-Joseph blanc Les Vessettes 2023

La Roche Paradis Saint-Joseph blanc Les Vessettes is an even split of Marsanne and Roussanne from the granite slopes of the northern Rhone.

Saint-Joseph stretches for some fifty kilometres along the right bank of the Rhone, from Chavanay in the north down past Tournon, and only a small share of its production is white. The best sites are steep terraces of decomposed granite, thin and free-draining, and the two permitted white grapes are Marsanne, which brings weight and a waxy, nutty character, and Roussanne, which adds perfume and acidity. This cuvee comes from the Les Vessettes parcel and is blended half and half from the two, and the estate is farmed organically. It is made in the appellation manner, with fermentation and lees ageing to build texture without heavy oak.

Medium bodied and gently textural, it works with roast poultry, river fish, soft cheeses and vegetable gratins; serve at around 11 degrees.
