La Soufrandière Pouilly-Fuissé Climat En Chatenay is a small east-facing parcel of old Chardonnay on the red soils of the Roche de Vergisson.

Pouilly-Fuissé takes in five communes beneath the limestone escarpments of Solutré and Vergisson at the southern end of Burgundy, and naming the climat on the label has become a normal part of how the appellation is bottled. En Chatenay is one of the sites at Vergisson, and La Soufrandière's holding there runs to 0.7 hectare at about 250 metres, facing east on red soils over Jurassic limestone, which the family credits for the wine's tension and texture. The Brets took over their grandfather's estate at Vinzelles in 2000 and added a further five hectares of certified organic vineyard, Pouilly-Fuissé among them, from 2016. Everything is farmed organically and biodynamically, with Demeter certification. The fruit is hand picked, pressed as whole bunches, fermented on its own yeasts and raised in barrels of six to eighteen years with no new oak.

It should keep about ten years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast poultry, scallops or a hard mountain cheese.
