La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles 1.5L MAGNUM 2020

La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles is drawn from the parcels of the Les Quarts hillside that do not go into the estate's single-vineyard cuvée, and is bottled here in magnum.

Les Quarts is the leading site of Pouilly-Vinzelles in the southern Mâconnais, divided into four historic lieux-dits: Haut, Bas, Le Clocheton and Les Quarts Touches. This wine blends the parcels held back from the Les Quarts bottling, planted at 230 metres on classic Bajocian clay and Jurassic limestone. The slope has been certified biodynamic since 2006. The 2020 was vinified mainly in tank, around sixty per cent, with the balance in older barriques. The domaine uses no new oak at all; the barrels in the cellar average ten to twelve years of age, and alongside ex-Leflaive and ex-Lafon casks the Bret brothers also buy used 300-litre barrels from Olivier Lamy. The intent throughout is to let the limestone show rather than the wood.

Ready now and good for six or seven years, the magnum longer still. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, grilled fish or a young Comté.
