Description
La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles is drawn from the parcels of the Les Quarts slope that do not go into the estate's single-climat bottling, and comes here in magnum.
Les Quarts is the leading site of Pouilly-Vinzelles in the southern Mâconnais, divided into the lieux-dits Haut, Bas, Le Clocheton and Les Quarts Touches. This wine blends those sections along with a small parcel of Au Bourgeois in front of Les Bouchardières, from vines aged thirty-five to fifty years, a little younger than those used for the Les Quarts cuvée. The slope sits at 230 metres on Bajocian clay and Jurassic limestone and has been certified biodynamic since 2006. The 2023 was vinified mainly in old barriques; the Bret brothers use no new oak at all, with cellar barrels averaging ten to twelve years and including ex-Leflaive and Lafon casks alongside 300-litre seasoned barrels from Olivier Lamy. Les Quarts becomes a certified premier cru from the 2024 vintage.
Best from a year or two and good for six or more, it suits roast chicken, grilled fish or a cheese soufflé. Serve at 10 to 12°C.
