La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles 2023

La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles is drawn from the parcels of Les Quarts that do not go into the domaine's flagship bottling of that name.

Pouilly-Vinzelles is a small appellation in the Mâconnais, next door to Pouilly-Fuissé, and Les Quarts is comfortably its finest vineyard, divided into the historical place names of Haut, Bas, Le Clocheton and Les Quarts Touches. La Soufrandière, run by the Bret brothers, has farmed here biodynamically since 2006. This wine blends the Quarts parcels not selected for the Les Quarts cuvée, from vines of 35 to 50 years, along with a small parcel of Au Bourgeois. The site lies at 230 metres on Bajocian clay and Jurassic limestone. Vinification is mainly in old barriques; the domaine uses no new oak at all, its barrels averaging ten to twelve years and bought used from other respected estates. The wine is expected to sit close to premier cru standard.

Drink over the next eight years, with roast chicken, scallops or a mushroom tart. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
