La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat Les Quarts comes from the steep vineyard at the origin of the estate, farmed biodynamically and ploughed largely by horse.

Pouilly-Vinzelles is a small appellation in the southern Mâconnais, neighbour to the better-known Pouilly-Fuissé, and Les Quarts is its most significant site. The Bret brothers have farmed here biodynamically since 2001. The Bajocian limestone is high in calcium carbonate and quartz and rich enough in iron to give the rock an ochre cast, with some granitic influence as well; across most of the vineyard the soil is only twenty to thirty centimetres deep before the roots meet the mother rock, and in places the topsoil can be scraped aside by hand to expose bare limestone. The mass-selection vines run between fifty and eighty years old, with younger material declassified into the straight Pouilly-Vinzelles. The wine is barrel-raised in seasoned oak, with no new wood used at the estate.

Textured but precise, it is best from two years and will hold eight or more; serve with roast chicken, scallops or a gruyère tart at 10 to 12°C.
