Description
La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Longeays is a single-climat Chardonnay from the Bret family's domaine at Vinzelles.
Pouilly-Vinzelles is a compact appellation on the eastern edge of the Pouilly-Fuissé group, and Les Longeays lies on deeper soils than the celebrated Les Quarts, which usually makes for a rounder and earlier-drinking wine. La Soufrandière has been in the Bret family for generations, though Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret were the first to bottle the fruit themselves rather than send it to the co-operative. Grapes are hand picked and whole-bunch pressed, fermentation runs on indigenous yeasts, and ageing takes place on lees in a mix of barrel and larger wood.
Good over the next five to seven years, with roast chicken, richer fish or comté. Serve at 10-12°C.
