Description
Description
Les Longeays is a biodynamic parcel of 1971 vines on the Vinzelles hill, planted where the Les Quarts slope continues around the contour.
Pouilly-Vinzelles is a small appellation next to Pouilly-Fuissé, and La Soufrandière — the Bret brothers' estate — has done most of the work in establishing its reputation. Their 0.55 hectares in Les Longeays sit on the turn of the hill facing east to south-east, a warmer aspect than the east-facing Les Quarts, so the parcel can be picked as much as a week earlier. The soils also differ: where Les Quarts has limestone close to the surface, Les Longeays has metres of deep red clay before the roots reach the mother rock. The estate is certified biodynamic and works with wild-yeast fermentation and long ageing on lees. Given the warm aspect and deep clay, the iodine-like mineral intensity of the wine is not what the site would lead you to expect.
Drink from now to about eight years; serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or soft cheese.
