La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts 2017

La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts is the Bret family's top climat, a single-vineyard Chardonnay on the limestone of Vinzelles.

Pouilly-Vinzelles is a small appellation next to Pouilly-Fuissé, and Les Quarts is its most highly regarded climat, a south-facing bank of shallow soils over hard limestone that ripens well and yields little. La Soufrandière is the Bret family's own domaine, farmed by Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret, who took over the vines in the late 1990s and began bottling rather than selling to the co-operative. The fruit is hand picked and whole-bunch pressed, fermentation is with indigenous yeasts, and the wine is raised at length on lees in barrel and larger wood before bottling.

This will reward five to ten years; serve with roast poultry, lobster or a firm alpine cheese at 10-12°C.
