Description
Lalù Barbera d'Alba is an organically farmed Barbera raised entirely in concrete, drawn largely from high-altitude fruit in Monforte d'Alba.
Barbera d'Alba covers the Langhe hills around Alba, where the variety keeps its naturally high acidity and low tannin. This release is the first to include fruit from Lalù's own vineyard at Bricco Giubellini in Monforte, planted on Diano sandstone at 530 metres, an altitude that brings welcome freshness in warmer Piedmont seasons. The balance comes from purchased fruit in Monforte's San Sebastiano, a site Lara Rocchetti and Luisa Sala rate highly for the variety. Farming is organic. The wine was made with a mix of whole berries and whole bunches, then fermented and matured for eight months entirely in concrete, with no oak. The result has powdery tannin and bright acidity, and reflects a deliberately light touch in the cellar.
Drink over the next five years, lightly chilled if you like, at 16C with salumi, tajarin al ragu or a mushroom pizza.
