Description

Lalù's Langhe Nebbiolo is an organically farmed, equal-parts blend of two sites the estate planted itself, both of which could be classified as Barolo.

Lara Rocchetti and Luisa Sala bought their first plot, Roncaglie in La Morra, in 2015 and planted it in 2017. It faces east at 400 metres, looking towards Verduno, and is a cool, windy, slow-ripening site where water-retentive clay soils matter a good deal in drier years. The second source is Bussia Bovi, a sub-cru within Monforte's Bussia, at 320 metres in the south of the MGA between Bricco San Pietro and the area historically known as Bussia Arnulfo. The soils there are sandy, giving a perfumed wine with supple fruit and delicacy, a counterweight to Roncaglie's firmer frame. In the cellar the fruit is mostly destemmed with as many whole berries retained as possible, allowing a portion of semi-carbonic maceration to lift the aromatics. The Bussia parcel ferments and matures in concrete; Roncaglie also ferments in concrete but is aged in Austrian foudre.

Drinking well now and for five or six years; serve at 16-18°C with tajarin, roast chicken or a semi-hard alpine cheese.
