Langmeil Blacksmith Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Langmeil Blacksmith Cabernet Sauvignon is a generous Barossa Cabernet named for the craftsman who first worked the Langmeil site.

In the early 1840s a blacksmith named Christian Auricht set up shop on this patch of the Barossa floor beside the North Para River, and went on to plant vines that still survive today. The wine's name pays tribute to him. Fruit comes from Barossa Valley vineyards and is fermented to hold on to its blackcurrant and blueberry depth, then matured in oak that adds a note of cedar without taking over. The result is a medium to full-bodied Cabernet with ripe berry fruit, a hint of black olive and liquorice, and fine-grained tannins that give it shape.

At around 16 to 18 degrees it is an easy match for lamb cutlets, a rare steak or a mushroom and lentil pie. Drink it now with a short decant, or cellar it for five years or so.
