Langmeil The Geologist Grenache Shiraz Mataro is a cork-sealed Barossa blend of the region's three classic Rhône varieties.

The name hints at the Barossa's varied soils, which range from sandy loams to red-brown clays and ironstone, and give each variety a different character. Grenache leads the blend here with red berries and dark cherry, Shiraz brings plum and body, and Mataro (Mourvèdre) adds savoury depth and firmer tannin. Langmeil mature the wine in oak, which contributes a mocha note and ties the parts together. It is a youthful wine with grippy, chalky tannins, and it comes from a family winery that has worked with Barossa growers since the mid-1990s.

Give it some air before serving at around 16 to 18 degrees. It pairs well with a cassoulet, spiced lamb shoulder or chargrilled chorizo, and will reward a few years in the cellar.
