Description
Lark Hill Estate Grüner Veltliner comes from the highest vineyard in the Canberra District.
Grüner Veltliner is Austria's signature white, peppery and savoury rather than fruity, and Lark Hill planted the first commercial block of it in Australia in 2005. The estate vineyard sits at about 860 metres on the Lake George escarpment near Bungendore, high enough that frost and a very short season are constant risks. Sue and David Carpenter established Lark Hill in 1978 and their son Chris now makes the wine; the property is farmed biodynamically and certified. Fermentation uses native yeast, with time on lees and large neutral vessels rather than new oak.
Serve at 10 degrees with schnitzel, pork, root vegetables or anything with white pepper. Keeps five years.
