Laughing Jack Jack's Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2019

Laughing Jack Jack's Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre is a Barossa red blend drawn from three estate vineyards.

Estate fruit from Maranga, Moppa Hill and Greenock makes up the 2019: 52 per cent Grenache, mostly from Maranga with a small lick of old-vine Moppa, 28 per cent Shiraz mainly off Greenock Creek, and 20 per cent dry-grown Mourvèdre from Moppa. Almost all of it was destemmed, though a little of the old-vine Grenache stayed as whole bunches. The parcels fermented separately in open-top vessels with hand plunging and pump-overs as each batch needed, then spent fourteen months in seasoned French puncheons before bottling unfined and unfiltered. Shawn Kalleske prices this well under what it is worth.

Red berries and plum with a dusting of spice, medium-bodied and easy in the shoulders, with soft tannin and a savoury Mourvèdre edge on the close. Serve at 16 degrees. It goes with roast chicken, sausages, a lamb tagine or pasta with fennel sausage.
