Laughing Jack Jack's GSM 2024

Laughing Jack Jack's GSM is a Barossa blend led firmly by Grenache.

Grenache takes 70 per cent of the 2024, with 20 Shiraz and 10 dry-grown Mourvèdre from Moppa, which makes this the most red-fruited version in a while. The two sources are the estate's own: Moppa Hill, planted in 1962, where ancient sandy topsoil sits over the reddish-orange clay the old roots reach down into, and Greenock, on deep red earth. Both are own-rooted and low-yielding, and both are farmed on organic principles. Hand-picked fruit is destemmed and fermented as whole berries in small open-top vessels, then matured for eighteen months in seasoned French oak puncheons.

Expect raspberry and red plum, a dusting of pepper and a dry, savoury finish. Medium-bodied with fine, powdery tannin. Serve at 16 degrees, or a little cooler in summer. It suits roast pork, lamb meatballs, grilled vegetables or a pizza with fennel sausage.
