Laurent Roumier Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2023

Laurent Roumier Bonnes Mares is a grand cru from the fifteen hectare vineyard that straddles the boundary between Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis.

Bonnes-Mares is the sturdiest of Chambolle-Musigny's two grand crus and the counterweight to Le Musigny at the far end of the commune. Growers divide it between the terres blanches, pale, chalky and stony soils at the northern Morey end, and the terres rouges, iron-rich reddish clay towards Chambolle, and most holdings take in something of both. The result is a wine with more frame and grip than the commune's usual profile, slower to open and long-lived. Pinot Noir is the sole grape, fermented in small vats with the whole-bunch proportion set by the vintage, and raised in oak barrel for around eighteen months with a significant share of new wood, as is customary at grand cru level.

Firm and long-lived, it calls for beef, venison or hare and time in the cellar; serve at around 17 degrees and decant young bottles.
