Laurent Roumier Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits rouge is a Pinot Noir from the higher, cooler plateau behind the Côte de Nuits.

The Hautes Côtes de Nuits covers the hills west of the famous slope, at altitudes of roughly three to four hundred metres, where vineyards are planted in clearings among woodland and pasture on thin limestone soils. Ripening runs later and cooler than on the côte itself, which in warm seasons now works in the appellation's favour and gives reds with lively acidity and modest weight. The domaine is based in Chambolle-Musigny, in a village where the Roumier name has been established for generations. Fruit is destemmed or partly whole bunch depending on the season, fermented in small vessels and raised in used barrel so that the oak stays in the background.

Light framed, red fruited and fresh, it suits charcuterie, roast chicken and lighter game, and takes a slight chill; serve at fifteen to sixteen degrees.
