Les Cortis Vin de France Naxide Blanc 2022

Les Cortis Vin de France Naxide Blanc is the estate's barrel-raised white, sixty per cent Chardonnay to forty per cent Altesse.

Naxide is the second of the two Les Cortis white blends and the more ambitious of the pair. It again pairs Chardonnay with Altesse, the Savoie variety known locally as Roussette, but draws on different plots and a different élevage from the Mérune. La Guele is a small site at 350 metres carrying forty-five-year-old Chardonnay and Altesse on deep limestone. The original Les Cortis plot, on siltier and stonier soils at just over 300 metres, holds Chardonnay vines approaching sixty-five years. Where Mérune stays in fibreglass, Naxide matures in barrel and demi-muids on fine lees, and the slow micro-oxygenation that wood allows gives the wine more dimension. Jérémy Decoster regards it as his serious white. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Worth keeping three to five years, it suits roast chicken, veal or a mature Beaufort. Serve at 10-12°C.
