Lethbridge Allegra Chardonnay Museum 2015

Lethbridge Allegra Chardonnay Museum is an aged release of the estate's top Chardonnay, held back at the winery.

Rebenberg, on the edge of Mount Duneed ten kilometres southwest of Geelong, is the only source. Grapes were first planted there in 1858; Ken and Joy Campbell replanted in 1968 and put Chardonnay in the ground in 1981. Those vines sit in gravel and quartz and crop at less than 12 hectolitres per hectare, and the combination gives what Ray Nadeson calls fruit of incredible density and acid, which is the reason it takes bottle age so well. Whole-bunch pressing, barrel fermentation, full malolactic conversion and new oak are the house method; time does the rest. Named for the elder of Nadeson and Maree Collis's daughters.

Developed and complex, with preserved lemon, toasted nuts and a waxy, mineral finish that stays long after the fruit has gone. Serve at 13 degrees. Good with roast turkey, a mushroom and tarragon tart, poached chicken or hard alpine cheese.
