Lethbridge Bartl Chardonnay 2023

Lethbridge Bartl Chardonnay is a single-block Moorabool Valley Chardonnay, made in tiny quantity.

The block is old and cropping very low, which is where the concentration comes from. Grapes were harvested by hand, pressed as whole bunches and fermented on wild yeast in new French oak, then taken through full malolactic conversion and matured in a mix of new and seasoned barrels. The cool 2023 season stretched ripening out and left plenty of acid, so there is structure here without any hardness. Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis reckon it will age superbly given patience. Only 824 bottles were filled.

Ripe nectarine and spice, with the concentration of a small crop and a bright acid spine holding it all up. Worth cellaring. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees. Try it with roast chicken, grilled crayfish, pork loin or a plate of Comté.
