Lethbridge Dr Nadeson Riesling 2023

Lethbridge Dr Nadeson Riesling is an off-dry Riesling from cold-climate Henty fruit.

The name is a nod to Dr Loosen in the Mosel, and the debt is real: Germany is where Ray Nadeson takes his cues on texture, structure and balance in Riesling, including the decision to leave a little sugar behind. Jack and Lois Doeven's Drumborg vineyard, planted in the 1980s on schist, is very cold, crops paltry, and delivers intense fruit with bracing acid; Nadeson has bought from it for more than twenty years and now takes the entire Riesling crop. Bunches come off by hand, ferment in large oak, then mature on fine lees in smaller barrels.

It bolts out of the glass with confit lemon, salt, herbs and stone, then runs across the palate on mouth-watering energy and punchy structure. The residual sugar reads as texture, not sweetness. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees. Try it with chilli crab, Thai salads or a spicy laksa.
