Lethbridge Hat Rock Pinot Noir 2023

Lethbridge Hat Rock Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from a bayside site on the Bellarine Peninsula.

Self-mulching black clay over limestone near Portarlington carries MV6, 114 and 115 planted in 2000, and the closeness of the water is what gives Bellarine Pinot its depth and flavour without heat. Fruit is hand-picked and wild-fermented with around half whole bunches, matured in 50 per cent new French oak and bottled without fining or filtration. The 2023 season was cool and low-yielding across Geelong, with a long growing period that needed careful management and repaid it with bright, finely balanced wines and high natural acid. Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis bottle their sites separately when the year justifies it.

Lifted red cherry and raspberry with a savoury, sea-air edge, fine tannin and considerable natural acid. Structured for the cellar, enjoyable now. Serve at 15 degrees. Try it with duck, roast chicken, salmon or a mushroom and leek tart.
