Lethbridge Hillside Haven Pinot Noir 2023

Lethbridge Hillside Haven Pinot Noir is a single-site Pinot Noir from high ground near Anakie.

At 254 metres on the slopes of Mount Anakie, quaternary basalt over granite carries D2V5 vines planted in 1998, a clone and soil combination that reads quite differently from the estate's coastal sites. Hand-picked fruit is wild-fermented with around half whole bunches, matured in 50 per cent new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. 2023 was cool, wet and small-cropping, with a long growing season and a warm late-summer finish that pulled the fruit into balance. Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis released a set of single-vineyard Pinots from the year for exactly that reason.

Darker-fruited and earthier than the bayside bottlings, with red plum, dried herb and a fine, mineral tannin frame. Elegant and bright. Serve at 15 degrees. Match it with roast duck, pork belly, mushroom risotto or a soft rind cheese.
