Lethbridge Indra Shiraz 2018

Lethbridge Indra Shiraz is the estate's reserve Shiraz, from a single block on the home vineyard.

The reserve wines here carry the names of Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis's four children, Indra, Allegra, Mietta and Hugo, and this one comes off low-yielding Block 3 in the Moorabool Valley, where the vines are rooted in black clay, basalt and limestone. The 2018 season started cool and wet and caused some worry before drying out in November; Nadeson has described what followed as one of the most pleasurable growing seasons in decades. Fruit was hand-picked and fermented spontaneously in open-top vessels with 80 per cent whole bunches, given a long cool ferment and extended skin time, then fifteen months in new wood and more than three years in bottle.

Peppery and floral, with dark berry fruit, cool-climate savour and whole-bunch spice over firm, fine tannin. Bottle age has softened the edges without dulling it. Serve at 16 degrees. Match it with roast lamb, beef ribs, duck with olives or grilled eggplant.
