Lethbridge Méthode Ancestrale 2022

Lethbridge Méthode Ancestrale is a single-fermentation sparkling white of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Meunier and Pinot Gris.

The 2022 blend runs 49 per cent Pinot Noir, 45 Chardonnay, 4 Meunier and 2 Pinot Gris. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris come from Barwite at Mansfield, high, cool country in Victoria's north-east, while the Meunier is grown at Jack and Lois Doeven's cold Drumborg site in Henty. Bottling happens partway through primary fermentation, which is what makes it an ancestral method wine: the carbon dioxide is trapped from the original ferment and nothing is added afterwards. Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis are serious sparkling producers, and it shows in how clean this is.

Fresh peach and juicy red berries, a gentle bead and a zesty, dry finish. Simple in the best sense. Serve it well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees. It suits fried food, a picnic, charcuterie or a plate of prawns.
