Lethbridge Methode Ancestrale 2023

Lethbridge Methode Ancestrale is a pét-nat sparkling of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Meunier and Pinot Gris.

The method is the oldest one there is: bottle the wine while primary fermentation is still running and let it finish in glass, so the bubble is a by-product of the original ferment and no second dose of yeast or sugar is needed. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris come from the cool Barwite vineyard at Mansfield in Victoria's high country, and the Meunier from Jack and Lois Doeven's cold Drumborg site in Henty. Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis make a lot of sparkling wine, some of it very serious; this is the cheerful end of the range, and it is clean and properly made.

Bright in the glass, with fresh peach and juicy red berries, a soft bead and a zesty close. Dry, uncomplicated, good company. Serve it cold, 6 to 8 degrees. Pour it with fried chicken, charcuterie, a plate of oysters, or on the way out the door.
