Lethbridge Pinot Gris 2026

Lethbridge Pinot Gris is a small-batch Gris drawn mostly from cold Henty vineyards.

Three sites and three soils: Jack and Lois Doeven's Drumborg vineyard on schist and Angela Vaughan's vineyard on clay and limestone, both in Henty, plus Hillside Haven at Anakie in Geelong, where quaternary basalt lies over granite. Every batch fermented on wild yeast, with part of the volume fermented in new barrels; some parcels saw up to two days on skins and others none at all. Maturation followed on fine lees, in foudre and other large-format oak, with bottling in August 2026. Henty is one of the coldest GIs on the mainland, and as usual it gave small crops of very good fruit.

Aromatic and finely built, with pear, citrus and a chalky, savoury undertow from the skin-contact parcels. Dry and long. Serve at 11 degrees. Try it with roast chicken, pork and apple, crab salad or a plate of hard cheese.
