Description
Lethbridge Que Syrah Syrah is a Pyrenees Syrah made in a lithe, cool-climate style.
Iron is the through-line at Malakoff: red ferrous clay strewn with ironstone and quartz, on a sheltered northeast slope at 300 metres near Landsborough, first planted in 1997. Cameron and Robert John still run it, and it has supplied top Shiraz to several well-known Victorian labels. Three Shiraz clones, PT23, BVRC30 and Best's Old Block, take the bulk of the 23 hectares. Ray Nadeson describes an inky, spicy signature common to every block, and in 2023 he adds juicy berries and a lick of iodine to that. Wild ferment, then maturation in large cuve.
Lithe and balanced, with juicy dark berries, pepper, iodine and a savoury iron note, the fruit and structure in easy agreement. Ready now. Serve at 16 degrees. Try it with lamb cutlets, sausages, a mushroom and barley risotto or hard cheese.
