Description
Lethbridge Riesling is an off-dry Riesling grown in Victoria's high country at Barwite.
Barrie Provan established the Barwite vineyard in 1998 on undulating, mostly northeast-facing slopes about fifteen minutes from Mansfield, and he and Ray Nadeson go back a long way: Lethbridge leases and manages Provan's Suma Park vineyard at Marcus Hill on the Bellarine. All the 2024 Riesling came from Barwite. Fruit fermented in small batches across stainless steel and large oak, then matured on light lees for eight months, with a small portion taken through malolactic conversion. Bottling was at 10 grams per litre of residual sugar, left deliberately to balance the natural acid, which Nadeson considers essential to a Riesling's texture.
Lime, green apple and wet slate, the sweetness buried under acid and reading as weight instead of sugar. Long and tightly wound. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees. Match it with sashimi, chilli crab, pork and fennel sausages or a Thai beef salad.
