Lethbridge Suma Park Pinot Noir 2023

Lethbridge Suma Park Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from a limestone escarpment on the Bellarine.

The site is at Marcus Hill, out on the Bellarine, where a thin red clay loam and buckshot sit above limestone and carry MV6 planted in 1999; Lethbridge leases and manages it for Barrie Provan. Salt air and chalk are what it contributes. Fruit is hand-picked and wild-fermented with around half whole bunches, matured in 50 per cent new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2023 season came in cool and wet, cropped small and ripened slowly, and the Bellarine has a reputation for depth and flavour in years like it.

Lifted red fruit with savoury complexity and a mineral-tinged, finely structured palate. Bright acid, fine tannin, good length. Serve at 15 degrees. Try it with duck, salmon, roast chicken with thyme or a soft goat's cheese.
