Lignier-Michelot Nuits St Georges Les Murgers Premier Cru 2014

Lignier-Michelot Nuits St Georges Les Murgers is a premier cru from the northern end of the commune, on the boundary with Vosne-Romanée.

The Murgers climat lies at the top of the slope at the Vosne end of Nuits-Saint-Georges, next to Aux Boudots, and takes its name from the drystone walls and stone heaps cleared from the vineyard. Soils are shallow and full of limestone rubble over rock, with little depth for the vine, and the wines that result are among the most aromatic and finely structured in the commune, closer to Vosne in perfume than to the broader reds of the Premeaux sector. Pinot Noir is the only grape. Domaine Lignier-Michelot, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, ferments in small vats after close sorting and ages its premier crus in barrel with a moderate proportion of new oak.

Structured and scented, with bottle age already softening the tannin; serve with beef, game birds or truffled dishes at around 17 degrees.
