Liliac & Kracher Ice Wine Transylvania 375ml 2023

Liliac & Kracher Ice Wine is a Transylvanian ice wine of Fetească Regală, made in a collaboration between the Romanian estate Liliac and Gerhard Kracher of Austria.

Liliac is based at Batos in Transylvania, in the Lechinta area of northern Romania, a cool continental pocket ringed by the Carpathians where winters are hard enough for genuine ice wine. The grapes are left hanging into the freeze and picked frozen, then pressed so that the water remains behind as ice and only a small volume of concentrated juice runs off. Feteasca Regala is a Romanian crossing and one of the country's most planted white grapes, with firm acidity and a light floral note that suits the style well. Gerhard Kracher, whose family at Illmitz built its name on Austrian botrytis wines, works with the Liliac team on their sweet wines. It finishes at 189 grams per litre of residual sugar.

Piercingly sweet with a bright acid line, it suits fruit tarts, sorbet and firm cheese; serve very cold at around 7 degrees.
