Linnaea Electric Magnolia 2023

Linnaea Electric Magnolia is a dry white blend of Grenache Blanc and Arinto grown in Heathcote.

Two clones each of Grenache Blanc and its Iberian cousin Arinto grow in the Whistling Eagle vineyard, which Dan has managed for the best part of a decade. The vines are mostly dry-grown, climbing above native cover crops in ancient soils formed from a basaltic shelf laid down some 525 million years ago. Fruit was hand-picked and chilled, then destemmed and pressed into steel tanks, where fermentation ran cool and slow. The lees were stirred through three months of maturation, and bottling followed unfined and unfiltered. Arinto is barely planted in Australia, which makes this worth trying on curiosity alone.

Luscious pear with turn after turn of lemon and lime, aromatic and tangy, finishing long and dry. Linnaea nicknamed it the Electric Margarita, which is fair. Serve at 10 degrees. Try it with grilled prawns, fish tacos, salt and pepper squid, or a green salad with feta.
