Description
Lis Neris Fiore di Campo is a Friulian white blend, the kind of mixed planting that was once the norm in this corner of Italy.
The estate lies at San Lorenzo Isontino, on the gravelly plain of the Isonzo in Friuli Venezia Giulia, a short distance from the Slovenian border and from the hills of Collio. Fiore di Campo brings together Friulano, the region's own grape and long its everyday white, with Sauvignon and Riesling. Blending across varieties has deep roots here, where growers planted mixed rows and picked them together, and it survives as a Friulian speciality even as single-variety bottlings have taken over elsewhere. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and given a period on its lees before bottling. The name means flower of the field, a nod to the meadows and mixed planting of the old Friulian countryside.
Serve chilled with prosciutto, salads, lighter fish dishes or soft cheeses.
