Little Reddie Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso 2022

Little Reddie Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is a light, savoury Heathcote red from a tiny parcel of vines.

The source is three rows in the south-east corner of the Chalmers vineyard, planted in 2015 on the ultra-red soils this part of Colbinabbin is known for, with the rows set east to west so the midday sun hits them side-on. Everything came in on 16 March, was destemmed and fermented in stainless steel, then pressed after three weeks. Maturation ran several months in tank followed by a few in a sandstone jar. The cool 2022 season pulled the wine into a lighter frame than usual, with finer tannin and lower alcohol, and Pat Underwood describes it as savoury, mineral and restrained. Forty dozen were made.

Redcurrant, wet stone and a herbal snap, all on a light, fresh frame that drinks like a good Loire red. Chill it to 14 degrees and pour it with roast chicken, lentils and sausage, or a tomato and basil salad.
