Little Reddie Rosato 2023

Little Reddie Rosato is a rose built from black and white grapes grown high on granite in Central Victoria.

Two sites feed it: the Igneous vineyard at Leanganook and Dash Farms at Faraday, both sitting well up on granite, which is why it tastes like a wine of the hills. Chardonnay came in first, then Shiraz, then Pinot Grigio and Riesling, with Cabernet Sauvignon last of all. Every variety fermented on its own in a range of vessels, each with a different stretch of time on skins. Staggering the picks and varying the ferments is what gives the wine its texture without weighing it down. Pat Underwood makes it for the table, and it behaves accordingly.

Pale copper in the glass, with strawberry, citrus and a dry, gently grippy finish. There is more substance here than the colour suggests. Drink it at 10 degrees with grilled fish, a summer vegetable tart, or a bowl of olives before dinner.
