Long Shadows Sequel Syrah 2017

Long Shadows Sequel Syrah is a Washington State Syrah made by former Penfolds Grange winemaker John Duval.

Long Shadows was founded in Walla Walla by Washington wine pioneer Allen Shoup, who invited some of the world's leading winemakers to each make one wine from Columbia Valley fruit. Sequel is the Syrah, made by Australian John Duval, who spent many years as chief winemaker at Penfolds. The fruit comes from established Columbia Valley vineyards, and the wine is matured in French oak. The 2017 is deep and inky, with blueberry, violet and cassis, a savoury black olive thread, and a layered, well-structured palate with fine texture and a long finish.

Decant for an hour and serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. It suits a rack of lamb, grilled wagyu or a wild mushroom ragout, and has the structure to cellar for another five to ten years.
