Description

Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau Vin De France XXI was the only wine the domaine produced from the 2021 harvest, blended from all of its terroirs.

Domaine Didier Dagueneau, now run by Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau, is the reference point for Sauvignon Blanc in Pouilly-Fumé and one of the most closely followed estates in the Loire. Frost and disease pressure left very little wine in 2021, so instead of releasing the usual range the domaine blended everything into a single cuvée and declassified it to Vin de France. XXI therefore draws on the parcels that normally give Pur Sang, Buisson-Renard and Silex, along with Les Monts-Damnés in Sancerre and a small amount of fruit from the Clos du Calvaire in Saint-Andelain, replanted in 2011. It was aged on lees for ten months in a range of oak vessels. The texture is compact and svelte, closer to the domaine's wines of an earlier era, with citrus, herbs and a chalky, saline finish.

Drinking well now and capable of five to eight years; serve with oysters, grilled white fish or fresh goat's cheese at 10-12°C.
